Bogumiła Kaniewska is a Polish literary scholar, specialist in Polish studies, translator and Professor of Humanities. She specialises in literary history, contemporary literature and literary theory.
From 2005 to 2012, she served as Deputy Director for Research at the Institute of Polish Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and from 2012 to 2016 as Dean of the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology. From 2016 to 2020, she was Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, and since 1 September 2020 she has served as Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University. From 2020 to 2024, she chaired the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities, and in 2024 she was elected President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland.
She is the author or co-author of nearly 100 academic publications, including books and articles. Her research focuses primarily on 20th-century literature, and she is also active as a literary critic. She translates English-language prose, with a particular focus on children’s literature, which is one of her major passions. She received her PhD in 1995, her habilitation in 2001, and the title of Professor of Humanities in 2015.
