Mário Rui dos Santos Miranda Duarte has been Ambassador of Portugal to Poland since 2025. A career diplomat, he joined the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990 and has held a number of positions in different areas of Portuguese diplomacy, notably in cultural affairs, security and defence, multilateral affairs, and relations with the European Union.
Throughout his career, he served as Consul of Portugal in Providence, United States of America, was a member of Portugal’s Delegation to NATO, and served as Deputy Diplomatic Adviser to Prime Ministers José Manuel Barroso and Pedro Santana Lopes. He also served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations in Geneva and as Ambassador of Portugal to Singapore between 2020 and 2024. He has been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.
