Maria (Maro) Evangelidou, studied architecture and urban planning in Florence and Paris. She has worked as an architect and urban planner at the private and public sector, where she especially served at the Metropolitan Athens Planning Organization, the Ministry of Environment and the National Center for Public Administration, as a lecturer and expert in urban and spatial planning issues. She has also served as Secretary General of the Environment at the Ministry of Environment and Energy and member of the European Council of Town Planners (ECTP). In addition, as an active member of civil society and scientific community, she has developed social action through the Associations such as: the Greek Urban /Spatial Planners, the Technical Chamber and several NGO’s as the “Movement for the Protection of Open Spaces”, “Network for the Athens Historic Center” and the “Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture”. Today, Maro Evangelidou serves as Deputy Mayor for Urban Regeneration and Resilience at the City of Athens and in this capacity she has responsibilities that include the Directorate of City Planning, Urban Environment and Sustainable Mobility.
