Dr Mateusz Piegza is an architect and expert in affordable housing, serving as Programmes Director at Habitat for Humanity Poland. He promotes housing innovation and new models for adapting vacant properties. In 2024, he defended his doctoral dissertation at the Silesian University of Technology, focusing on the conversion of post-industrial buildings for residential purposes in Poland and EU countries.
From 2020 to 2023, he led the Polish team in the international project “Empty Spaces – Filling the Gap”, which focused on adapting vacant properties to provide housing for people most in need. He established one of Poland’s first Social Rental Agencies, for which he received an award from the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in 2023.
