Frank Joneit (M. A.) was born in Bochum, Germany, on June 13th, 1965. He studied political sciences, English and history at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. From September 1990 to July 1991 he was teacher for German language at comprehensive schools in Sunderland (Wearside). In 1996 he started working in the department for planning at Kommunalverband Ruhr (Association of local authorities / KVR). Since October 2004 he is with Ruhr Regional Association (Regionalverband Ruhr / RVR) where he worked in the department for regional development. In September 2021 he switched into RVR’s new department for Mobility. The focus of his work lies on the development of innovative solutions for regional transportation and mobility. That includes expertise on local and regional public transportation development including the Mobility Impulse for the Ruhr (Synchronization of local public transport plans), cycle highways and multimodality. The management and implementation of communication processes with politics and public institutions as well as local authorities are also a part of his professional activities. Frank Joneit also works on the implementation of competitive procedures in interdisciplinary teams including European inter-regional projects with Belgium, France, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands. He had also been lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Bochum for the topic of public transport in the early 2000s and was member of a research team on re-opening of railway lines for passenger transport and cargo tram studies. He represented RVR in Interreg North-West Europe projects: From 2010 to 2014 he was part of the CODE24 project for the development of the Rhine-Alpine railway corridor Rotterdam/Antwerpen – Genova. From 2015 to 2019 he was with CHIPS. The target of the project was to develop and promote cycle highways as an effective and cost efficient low carbon solution for commuting.
